>The nature of my work means I spend a lot of time traveling. On average, I take 8-10 trips per year, about half of which are international travel. Most are short (2-4 days), but several are 10-day trips overseas. Furthermore, I lead a lot of groups overseas and often get requests for gear recommendations and tips. That's the purpose of this page.
## The Gear
The most frequent request I receive is for recommendations on the right travel gear. That's a really hard request, because the "right" gear depends on a lot of factors. Men and women travel different. Most people have at least one or two specific needs (think medicine, particular work gear, etc.) that make their requirements unique. Furthermore, not everyone travels for the same length of time.
As a result, I've decided to break this site up into a few different gear lists. The first is my present travel list. These are the specific things I presently use myself. I will update this periodically, as I find something that replaces a current piece of gear. The second is a list I'd recommend for my students who travel with me. My assumption is that students going on a trip won't likely be travel with the regularity that I do and that they are on a tighter budget. So, this list will be more spartan and price-conscious. Finally, I will also provide some comparisons of various travel gear based on category. If you don't like one of the specific items on a list, you can always look at the other options in a given category.
