When we take students overseas for a 10-day trip, we usually ask them to pack light enough that they do not need a check bag. Our trips are not vacations, and we will often be hauling our bags to different sites while we are there. As a result students have to carry everything they bring, all while navigating trains, taxis, rickshaws, or the occasional canoe. Packing light is essential.
